Hirsch Natur's "trekkies" were designed to be the ideal hiking socks. The idea was to put an extra-terry reinforcement only to the most stressed parts of a sock: Heel, base and Toe. This reinforcement is knitted in fine untreated Merino wool. In following washing Treatment this Merino wool is transformed into a very strong felt which possesses a high resistance to abrasion because the individual fibres are firmly interlocked with each other. As all the zones which are exposed to heavy wear are provided with such felting, the product has a long life. These all wool knitted socks for adults are made from pure, organic sheep's wool from controlled biological livestock. Made by Hirsch Natur, these socks are 100% organic wool*, certified by IVN and meeting the GOTS standards.
Hirsch Natur was founded in 1928 in Westphalia deer Laer and is still family owned. With over 70 years of producing high quality socks and tights, the company continues to uphold exceptionally high standards. The current owner, grandson of the founder, continues to develop new ways to incorporate sustainable practices into the manufacturing process and to make the company as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.
Only German virgin wool is used from certified organic farming and meeting the GOTS - Seal. By not using chemical or mechanical equipment, the natural structure and wonderful moisture balancing effect of wool are retained. Hirsch Natur wool and cotton socks and tights are organically produced and certified by IVN, the Natural Textile Association, an organization of which Hirsch Natur is a founding member.
Made in Germany.
*please note that these socks have several small, elastic threads woven into the very top section to hold them up around the ankle. The manufacturer includes these elastic threads because without them, socks made from only natural fibers will not stay up around the ankle. The elastic threads have minimal, if any, contact with the skin. The fabric itself is made from 100% organic wool (no synthetic materials)*
