Flat muslin cloth diapers are wonderful to have on hand for a newborn baby because they are so versatile. These square muslin flats are traditionally used for newborn babies as cloth diapers, but they also make wonderful burp cloths, newborn receiving blankets, bibs, and pretty much anything else that comes to your mind! Muslin is very absorbent, dries quickly, and can be folded up for a very trim fit because it is a very lightweight material, so it is ideal for cloth diapering your baby. The beauty of a flat of this size (23" x 23" after washing) is that you can use the same diaper on your baby for many, many months. These flats are truly one-size diapers.
There are many, many ways to fold these cloth diapers, and there is no one "right" way; each mother finds a fold that works best for her baby. For newborns, our favorite folds are both the "Jo" fold and the origami fold, both of which require a snappi fastener or diaper pin. The Jo fold is quite adjustable and can be used on a newborn as well as a much older baby. To see how this fold works, you can view our video demonstration here.
You may also fold the muslin into thirds and use it as you would a prefold diaper folded into a cover. If you need more absorbency, you can add an extra liner or you can make a double layer by folding two muslin squares together. You can also use muslin flats folded up and placed inside of pocket diapers as quick-drying inserts for older babies.
Made by disana, this nappy is made of 100% organic cotton muslin, certified organic by the International Association Natural Textile Industry (IVN) and the Global Organic Textile Standard. High quality organic cotton such as this is antistatic, robust, moth-resistant, and can be washed at high temperatures in washing machines. It is suitable for the most sensitive skin, making it an ideal choice for infants.
Made in Germany.
Size: Each muslin cloth diaper measures 31.5" x 31.5" before being washed. After being washed, each flat measures 23" x 23" and can be stretched out to about 27" x 27". A muslin flat of this size typically can fit babies from the newborn stage through the toddler stage, depending on the fold you choose.
Care: Organic cotton may be machine washed at high temperatures. If using as a cloth diaper for a newborn, please wash 3-5 times before using so it will be fully absorbent; some shrinkage is to be expected.

I have a variety of muslin flats and some GMD newborn prefolds. The prefolds are barely used because the muslin is so much better. The muslin weave holds onto that EBF poo much better than tighter weaves. Do not buy the cheap muslin flats (on Amazon) because they turn into rectangles after the first wash, these Disana's stay squares. Also, muslin dries in about 15 minutes.

we love these, my husband said "wow that diaper looks cozy" and it is, these are great flats, wash up all fluffy and stretchy and absorbent. Disana is a trustworthy company and these are unbleached organic cotton and imported from Germany, they pair well with their wool covers. Our favorite flats, you need to be more gentle than with birdseye fabric but they easily take a snappi. I might have to get another dozen.
